Blues, Burbs & Beans
Big time Monday blues today. It’s also raining. The optimal day to cue up the “Down In The Dumps” playlist on Spotify & watch some Scott Hansen on GoldZone (iykyk).
After 1 month living on the ocean here in Massachusetts, I’ve finally reached my last week & the dreaded return back to NYC in August awaits me.
Not gonna lie, I’ve really enjoyed not living in New York City this past month. I knew I would like it but damn… I might love it (?). Having a car. Everything is cheaper. There’s so much more space. I have family close by. Playing tons of golf & tennis everyday. The beach. Things that are normally such big ordeals in the city are so so easy & accessible in the ‘burbs.
BUT, I need to now trick myself into being excited to go back & try and remember all the reasons I love & moved to the Big Apple in the first place…. Where to start…
1) There’s no hustle like the hustle that exists in NYC. People work harder, smarter & faster than anyone else in the world. If I didn’t live in NY, I would not be in the position I am today. No chance. I’d probs be working some boring ask desk job & living in Southie. Not that there’s anything wrong with that 🙂 … I just can’t wait to get back to the hustle mindset. Something about the ‘burbs just makes everything a little slower.
2) The food. Needs no explanation. I miss the food.
3) The people. The ‘burbs are nice, but it’s pretty one dimensional. I miss the variety of the city & all my friends. Can’t wait to go to a bar with my friends.
4) Some BIG Mugsy things happening in NYC… Can’t say yet but it’s gonna be sick.
With all that being said I’m back Aug 6th. If you’ve got an event, send it my way. I’m there.
Welcoming back to week 41 of Trust Fun. Let’s dance.
When Meta isn’t working
Unlocking new advertising channels is always a game of cat & mouse in the world of ecommerce. There’s no “how to” guide or obvious channels you should be utilizing. Let me tell ya, I’ve tested so many channels & one that I never could figure out was affiliate. I had always heard great things, but why couldn’t I make affiliate marketing work? Was I just a dum dum? Probably. Quick crash course on affiliate marketing:
You pay influencers, bloggers, and other digital hustlers to feature your products. They use special links, and every time someone buys through those links, they get a commission… Here’s an example of a placement we got at Mugsy:
Every time some clicks into our jeans in this FashionBeans article (frankenbeans voice), we pay the publication a % of revenue (usually 5-15% depending on the quality of it). That’s affiliate marketing.
Anyways, when I got to Barstool Sports, I was (of course, classic Barstool) tasked with owning our affiliate channel… Lol… Great. I was now managing a channel that 1) I’ve never made work & 2) I didn’t really believe in.
BUT then entered the team at eAccountable- our digital partner in all things affiliate. They were killer in making sure we ended up in the right placements, saw serious ROAS & grew our affiliate presence tenfold. Founder Mike McFadden has been in the game a LONG time & has a built a team of lethal affiliate weapons. If affiliate isn’t a top channel or you’re considering it, talk to eAccountable here. One of the best to ever do it.
Affiliate is a powerful channel. It also helps SEO. But making it work is tough. Talk to these folks if you want to make it easier.
That’s all folks. Go team USA and say goodbye to my tan.
