Crash, Comedy & Candor

Going to try a slightly different format for Trust Fun today - you can either tell me to fuck off & go back to the normal way, OR, if you like it, you can respond to this email with a friendly emoji- like đŸ«¶ or đŸ„ł or 👍. Feedback is feedback, I will not be offended.

First thing’s first: It’s November. Lock in. Holiday shopping is upon us. Some brands have already launched their Black Friday deals (desperate much? lol)

I have one thing to say to you & it’s you better be using Revenue Roll as all this traffic hits your website & you send all those awesome emails. Without them, you’re leaving 6-figures of revenue on the table. Plain and simple. Make sure every email is hitting the main inbox. Make sure every person is accurately identified. Are they a mom? Did they play a college sport? Revenue Roll is a MUST for these high volume periods. Talk to them ASAP before it’s too late. My good friend & founder of RR, Michael, is able to help 2 brands get on before the holiday. Talk to ‘em here —> Talk to Revenue Roll.

Here’s the fun stuff. Welcome back to Trust Fun. Happy Veteran’s Day đŸ‡ș🇾

Is everyone here familiar with Judd Apatow? He’s the dude responsible for movies like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Freaks & Geeks, Superbad and MANY MORE.

What’s your favorite Judd Apatow movie?

Essentially, he’s a comedy genius (perhaps THE comedy genius of the 2000s) who I paid to see do stand-up comedy this past weekend in NYC.

Before I dive into this, I am NOT trying to portray myself as the final boss of deciding what is good comedy & what is not. I love comedy. I watch and listen to a lot of it. I know comedy is hard as fuck. Dare I say, near impossible. I am AMAZED by people who get up on stage & can make people laugh by just telling stories.

But, I digress. I am indeed about to tell you I saw underwhelming comedy. Candidly, Judd wasn’t great on stage. Unfortunately for him (& his stand-up), his body of work preceded him & set the bar way too high. How on God’s green earth was he suppose to match the level of funny of a movie like Superbad?

The answer is simple. He wasn’t. Now way in hell. He was literally set-up for failure.

We expected expect every joke to hit like a perfectly scripted scene from Superbad or Knocked Up. But those movies had months of writing, rewriting, editing, and refining, not to mention a whole team of actors, editors, and producers making every line land just right. Stand-up, on the other hand, is raw and immediate. There’s no editing room, no second takes—it’s you, a mic, and the room’s energy.

Sometimes, even a pro can look like a rookie when they step into a new arena, and that’s okay.

It’s a reminder that no matter how experienced or successful you are, every new challenge can still humble you. A pretty good reminder that we all have room to take chances, mess up, and learn from it.

Love you a lot Judd. This doesn’t change that.

To his credit, he did admit it’s really hard to sit down and write jokes when you’re already stupid rich, cuz you sit down with a pen & paper and think “Well, I could just be in Greece right now.” Fair. Very Fair.
