Fifty, Fumbles & Football
I am exhausted… from watching football all day. The New England Patriots are terrible. Awful. Yesterday was probably the worst performance I’ve watched in my 28 years of being a Patriots fan. Just painful. Not to mention my fantasy team is riddled with injuries & just can’t sniff a win. I’m seriously considering taking a break from consuming football altogether. It isn’t bringing me any joy. Just misery. Why am I doing this to myself? I can’t believe Jets fans have had to go through this type of catastrophe every single year. It’s MISERY.
5 long years. Time to get into Premier League or F1 or something.
Alas, I wake up, grab my decaf latte, and go on with my life like the Patriots aren’t terrible.
Luckily, people are starting to buy jeans again. Mugsy had its best week on Amazon ever. Ads are working. Team Mugsy is white hot.
I’ve always been a glass half full kind of guy. Aka, an optimist. Any time something is not going my way (like, I dunno, the New England Patriots), I try and find a silver-lining that I can rebound my emotions with (like my awesome job at Mugsy).
Perspective is everything. Whether it’s your shitty NFL franchise, a bad day at work, or it’s you just feel like you’re just getting dragged through the dirt & mud… Just take a beat. This is my favorite quote to go back to when shit seemly sucks so much.
Step back. Find gratitude. What do you have that you once wanted so fucking badly? What have you built? Remember some of your big wins of the past. Then, see if you can find some easy wins to grab in the near future. Stack them. I’d argue that 10 small wins are better than 1 big one.
Welcome to week 50 (…?) Of Trust Fun. Half way to one hundred. Let’s Go. Fifty.
Fifty damn weeks of doing this thing. There’s a win right there.
It’s as if I can barely remember Rhamondre Stevenson’s first fumble yesterday.
When it comes to busting slumps… here are some of the things I like to do when things don’t seem to be falling my way.
Change the Scenery: Go somewhere different, work from the library, a coffee shop. Sometimes just shifting your environment can make a huge difference.
Get Moving: Work out. The obvious one. Run. Walk. Jog. Dance. Burpees. Sign up for a workout class. Working out is the easiest small win you can get.
Vent to a Friend: Rant it out, & laugh about it. Venting while laughing can help clear out the negativity.
Break the Routine: Wear something different, try a new food, or start a new book. Variety helps reset your brain.
Treat Yourself: Sometimes, you just need to indulge a little—order that dessert, take an extra-long shower, or maybe some retail therapy. It helps.
After 50 weeks of doing this, I’ve realized it isn’t always gonna be perfect & profound. But that’s ok. Stack small wins. Stop trying to climb Everest & find a small hill & run up it. And then again. And again.
That’s a metaphor, folks.
Have an awesome week. Grab a win for me today. Love you all.
