Patriots, Pants & Productions

I wrote, acted & directed in a video with two former Super Bowl Champions…

You know that feeling when you’ve been talking about doing something forever, and then one day you finally stop talking and just do the damn thing? Here’s how it happened:

It started with my buddy Danny Healy. Danny’s a fellow newsletter guy, from the Boston area, and produces a podcast with Brian Hoyer and David Andrews — two New England legends. For months, he and I had been tossing around the idea: we’ve gotta do something with those guys. But we had nothing concrete. Just a bunch of “yeah, let’s” texts and half-baked ideas.

Finally, it clicked: what if their post-retirement job was working at the Mugsy store in Boston? Two former Pats players slinging jeans like they’re calling audibles. We loved it.

From there, it was script time. Drafts, revisions, working & changing it internally with the Mugsy team, hopping on pre-production calls with Danny, Brian, and David. Eventually, we had something that didn’t make anyone want to retire again.

Here’s a glimpse at the story board & script -

Then came production mode. I hired John Rawlins, an insanely talented Boston-based cinematographer (shout out to his brother Nathan, one of my close buddies). For sound, I literally googled “Boston sound engineers” and found Ben Didsbury, who turned out to be a pro’s pro — boom in hand, catching every muttered joke and denim rustle.

We locked in the date, cleared schedules, got the budget set, and then it was go time. The guys showed up, the cameras rolled, and suddenly I was acting in a Mugsy skit with two former Patriots legends.

And here’s the wild part: after months of planning, writing, revising, hiring, and shooting… the end result is just a 2-minute video. That’s showbiz, baby.

Let me know what you think!
